DESCRIPTION: Pend Oreille County, located in the northeast corner of Washington State, shares borders with Idaho and Canada, and serves as a gateway to some of the Pacific Northwest's most enchanting landscapes and outdoor recreation areas. The current population is approximately 12,000. Newport, with a population of 2,000, is the largest town in the County and is the county seat.

Reporting to the Board of Commissioners, the Public Works Director leads the activities and operations of the divisions within the Public Works Department. Divisions include Engineering Services, Road, Solid Waste, Milfoil Control, Equipment Rental & Reserve, Buildings & Grounds, and Administration. The Department is staffed with 39 FTE's and has a budget for 2010 of $12,239,896.

A bachelor's degree in public administration, civil engineering, or a related field; and a minimum of five to ten years of relevant experience in a comparable or larger agency, with at least five years administrative management experience, is required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted if it provides the desired skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
