DESCRIPTION:  The City of Kenmore is located at the north end of Lake Washington in King County, approximately 25 minutes from downtown Seattle and 20 minutes from downtown Bellevue. The City incorporated in August 1998 and has a “contract city” philosophy, which results in a small number of staff who manage a variety of contracts for service. The community has 20,220 residents that enjoy the proximity to regional employment and business centers. Kenmore practices the Council/Manager form of government. The City’s 2008 annual budget is $76 million; more than half of the budget is related to capital projects.

The City Engineer will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating the city’s engineering and project management needs and identifying appropriate in-house staffing and external contracting levels. The City Engineer will manage the design and construction of transportation, storm drainage and other capital projects included in the City’s Capital Improvement Program.  He/she will also develop and implement updates to the Transportation Improvement Program and participate in regional forums and discussions of issues affecting the SR 522 corridor such as tolling, and SR 520 mitigation. The City Engineer must have the ability to develop and implement new procedures, standards and regulations and be able to work cooperatively and effectively with City staff, elected officials, contractors, consultants and citizens.

Candidates should have at least five years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience, including construction management and design and construction of transportation and drainage improvement projects. Senior management experience in a similar city or public sector agency as a public works director, assistant public works director, city engineer, assistant city engineer or comparable position is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or applicable field is required as is a Washington State P.E. License.  A Washington State driver’s license and evidence of a good driving record will be required.
