POSITION: Chief of Police

DESCRIPTION: Subject to the provisions of the City Charter, City Code and applicable policies and procedures, to plan, direct, coordinate, evaluate and review the programs, projects and activities of the Police Department in the enforcement of law and the preservation of life and property; to carry out the statutory duties of Chief of Police; to provide leadership and direction for the department; to oversee Animal Control for the City; and to perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications: Experience: Ten years of increasingly responsible professional experience in law enforcement, including at least five years in an administrative or managerial capacity. Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in police science or administration, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree in the same fields of study is desirable. Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid California driver’s license. Possession of a Management Certificate as issued by the state of California Commission on Peace Officer’s Standards and Training. Community The Oroville Police Department is comprised of 38 full-time employees. This includes a Police Chief, 2 Lieutenant, 4 Sergeants, 1 Detective, 18 Police Officers, 2 Administrative Assistants, 1 Records Technician, 7 Public Safety Communication Specialists and 2 Community Services Officers.

Patrol personnel work a 4-10 or 3-12 schedule. Officers may be assigned “flex” shifts dependent upon activity level and available manpower. Officers are required to work their assigned shift regardless of weekends or holidays. Compensation for the time worked on holidays is provided.

Police Officers are under the direct supervision of the shift Sergeant. All officers undergo continuing training, in-house, on-the-job and in P.O.S.T. certified courses offered throughout the State.
