Thorne Bay is 47 air miles northwest of Ketchikan on the east coast of Prince of Wales Island. It is a full service community with dependable and regular float plane and ferry transportation to and from the island. Winters are mild and summers are cool. Thorne Bay has small town charm and is a close knit community. The City of Thorne Bay’s governing agency is the City Council. The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the city and is elected from the City Council by the voters of the city. The City Administrator, acting as the chief administrative officer at the direction of the Mayor, oversees the day-to-day operations of the city and ensures that all functions of the city are carried out efficiently and effectively. The city has approximately 10 employees and a total general fund budget for FY 2011 of $1,273,359 and the annual capital budget is approximately $1,660,204. A Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, or related field, and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible senior management experience in municipal government or other governmental agencies is required. Any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job may substitute.
